“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:19-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It is so awesome to honor GOD with your life and body. As Christ’s servants, we yearn to give all that we have to Christ…we know that all of who we are, and all of what we have is only possible because of His grace.

Many ask us for fitness advice, and we both have found that the key factor in our body transformation is GOD. We both realized that pursuing active hobbies were ways to spend time with GOD and also ways to demonstrate discipline and commitment to GOD.

We understand that the body is a Holy temple, and we want to be good stewards over our temples. If we cannot manage our Holy GOD-given temples here on this earth, how can GOD expect us to manage His Heavenly Kingdom? We understand that this life is temporary, and in all that we do, we just want to make sure GOD gets the glory for everything. We want to demonstrate to Him that we are fit for His Heavenly Kingdom.

Our “before” pictures represent young individuals who loved GOD but were not yet on fire for Him. We knew Him, we knew His works, but we were lukewarm. And that was so dangerous…GOD does not like lukewarm…he prefers us to be on fire for Him, or not on fire for Him at all. ““I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:15-16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The individuals in the “before” photos wanted to do worldly things, and still receive GOD’s favor…..The individuals in the “before” pictures also experienced troubles that were not part of GOD’s plan. Because we were not actively following GOD’s voice, we made avoidable, unnecessary mistakes. We are thankful for the mistakes and the times during which we hit rock bottom, because in those times, we realized that we needed GOD. We were in college when we decided to take better care of our bodies. We did not know much, but we knew we could do better. With college budgets, we could not afford personal trainers, but we knew that GOD could train us and rescue us from our unhealthy lifestyles.

The individuals in the “current” photos represent young, equally yoked individuals who are on fire for GOD…individuals who have grown in Christ and see the value of discipline and commitment…individuals who don’t have much but want to honor GOD with what they do have, especially their lives and their bodies…individuals who have standards for their Holy, GOD-given temple and know that any and everything (food, people, etc) cannot just go into the Holy Temple, but it is made for intentional GOD-ordained purposes.
“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬.

“He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Since becoming saved, GOD has fostered greater desires within us to minister and to be of service to the community. As Christ’s servants, we understand that we have a role to fulfill in the body of Christ and we want to be healthy and able to be used for any role He calls us to fulfill.

In our faith walk, we have also realized that the human body may experience cravings that may or may not align with the word of GOD and may cause of to lose focus from GOD’s will. For example, in scripture we see: “Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.” 1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:18‬ ‭NLT‬‬. Though the scripture specifically detests fornication, sometimes our bodies may yearn to indulge regardless. We both found that exercising helps to combat those desires and prevents frustration. We see that GOD has a higher purpose for our bodies, a purpose that calls for us to serve Him and to pursue righteousness. If we defile our bodies by doing things He hates, how can GOD use us? In our faith walk, we have seen that by choosing GOD over temptation…that by honoring Him, He has honored us.

In our faith walk, we both lost and gained 60lb….for her: 195lb -> 135lb; for him: 120lb -> 180lb. Because so many ask us “How did you lose weight? How did you become muscular?”, we wanted to create this post as a resource for those with fitness goals and remind any and everyone in pursuit of goals that Christ is the key factor in any process or transformation. So…..

1. Dedicate your life and body to Christ, profess your desire to live for Him

2. Ask GOD to be your accountability partner…if you have a fitness goal, commit to routine gym dates with the LORD. The gym is a great, safe atmosphere to spend time with GOD.

3. Pray for a renewed mind with purposeful desires that align with His will

4. Pray for a mind of discernment that will not become distracted

5. Pray for a spirit of commitment to His perfect will

6. Remember that “the food we eat should fuel us to accomplish the will of GOD, not weigh us down”- Heather Lindsey, (one of our favorite preachers)

Our regimens:
1. Daily gym dates with GOD- working out with sermons on repeat

2. Active hobbies- running half and full marathons, fitness competitions, cycling clubs

3. Increased water intake- 1 half to 1 full gallon of water per day

4. Fasted cardio in the morning before breakfast

5. Sprints

6. Weight training

7. Hot tea and apple cider & vinegar in water for detoxing

8. Eliminating processed foods or fast foods

9. Create a meal plan and pray for discipline in sticking to it…remember, whatever we pray for, we WILL be tested in…so push through the tests. Also, check out this meal plan the future groom created for His future bride for her use in preparing for a fitness competition Meal Plan 2016
